Go through the steps below to explore Swing Impact on parties.
How to get Swing Impact for Assembly Elections:
- Select AC in the Election Box.
- Select the State from the drop down in the second box.
- Now select the Party for which you want to know the Swing Impact. Enter party name in the third box. You will get prompts even if you enter party abbreviation. Select the party.
- Click on
to display the current result.
- Once the current result is displayed, use the slider to swing the current vote share of the party. Wait for results to display.
How to get Swing Impact for Parliamentary Elections:
- Select PC in the Election Box.
- Now select the Party for which you want to know the Swing Impact. Enter party name in the third box. You will get prompts even if you enter party abbreviation. Select the party.
- In the Third Box, default option is set to All India for PC Election. If you want Swing Impact for a particular state, select the state from the dropdown in third box.
- Click on
to display the current result.
- Once the current result is displayed, use the slider to swing the current vote share of the party. Wait for results to display.
Methodology:
The formula in our swing tool is as follows:
- Calculate actual votes that have to be decreased or increased, based on the swing percentage for the concerned party on a macro level i.e. national or state.
- Then this vote has to be distributed on all the seats contested by the party in the last election proportionally.
- This change in votes would be different in different constituencies. Stronger seats would get more votes and weaker seats less votes. The change in votes for the concerned party would affect opposition parties on that seat in proportion to their votes polled.
